Kitchi Manitou’s Artwork Through My Lens
Walking the Red Road: A Sunrise Teaching
Sometimes Kitchi Manitou gives us a teaching before we understand it.
On the morning of November 5, 2025, I stood on the ferry with my camera, believing I was simply photographing a sunrise.
Months later, while reflecting on my own journey of walking the Red Road, I realized these photographs were telling a story.
They revealed how the Creator’s light awakens within us.

The First Light
Before we ever see the sun, we notice its light.
Kitchi Manitou often works this way.
Long before we recognize His presence, something within our spirit begins to awaken. We sense hope. We long for peace. We begin searching for truth.
The light arrives before we understand where it comes from.
Turning Toward the Light
The first edge of the sun appears.
This reminds me that every journey begins with a choice.
Walking the Red Road isn’t about becoming perfect overnight.
It begins when we decide to turn toward the Creator.
The Journey
The sun rises higher.
The shadows are still there.
But they no longer define the landscape.
Healing works much the same way.
Walking with Kitchi Manitou doesn’t remove every hardship.
It changes which direction we face.
The Light Within
Now the sun shines over everything.
The landscape hasn’t changed.
The light has.
When we walk with Kitchi Manitou long enough…
His light begins shining through us.
People notice our kindness before they know our story.
They experience peace before they understand where it comes from.
The Creator’s light becomes visible through the way we live.
Reflection
Walking the Red Road is much like watching the sunrise.
The light comes first.
Before we ever see the sun, we notice its warmth touching the horizon.
Then we choose to turn toward it.
Little by little, the darkness loses its hold.
Finally, the light rises within us.
We no longer walk by the shadows behind us, but by the Creator’s light before us.
Just as the sun cannot help but shine, a spirit walking with Kitchi Manitou cannot help but reflect His light into the world.
